What is LATI?
LATI is a 12-weeks training program for public library associates who work in Marylands public libraries. A minimum of 45 hours are spent in on-site sessions. Additional online sessions (both synchronous and asynchronous) are scheduled over the duration of the training.
What are the eligibility requirements?
Maryland law requires that a library associate complete a minimum 60 hours of training or six credit hours towards a MLS within two years of hire. Each county library system defines which types of job positions require participation in LATI.
Where is LATI held?
Sessions are held in public libraries around the state and on the Internet.
When is LATI scheduled?
Sessions are scheduled in the Fall and Spring.
How do I enroll?
You are enrolled in LATI by your library system. Your supervisor and/or staff development coordinator will explain the process to you.
What does LATI cost?
Participation in LATI is free.
What do I wear?
The code words are casual, comfortable and layered. Wear clothing that is loose fitting and adjustable to the temperature of meeting rooms, which are invariably too hot or too cold. For our trip to Pratt and the Showcase, business dress is appropriate.
Where do I eat?
LATI provides continental breakfast and lunch each day. Bring a coffee mug/cup with a lid it tastes better than styrofoam and if there is a spill, the carpet is protected.
What do I do if I am sick or the weather is bad?
If you are sick or must miss a session for personal reasons, arrange your absence with your supervisor and let the LATI coordinator know that you will be absent. If the weather is inclement, follow your systems policy.
How much time will LATI require?
In addition to attending the face-to-face and online sessions, you will need to plan on approximately five hours a weekan hour a day, give or take, to work on assignments, your project, etc. The scheduling of time will be negotiated with your supervisor.
Will I be able to complete assignments at work?
LATI is designed for you to complete your fieldwork, assignments and online sessions on-the-job, during your regularly scheduled work hours. You may choose to do some of your reading, planning, thinking during off-work hours.
Will I get paid or compensatory time for any work I do on my own time?
Each library system handles paid or compensatory time differently. Please discuss this question with your supervisor to determine your systems policy/practices.
Will I be reimbursed for mileage and/or parking?

Will I be promoted after I complete the certification requirements?

What type of email address will I need?
The LATI web site includes email roster for both the facilitators and LAs. You may also send email to your session-mates and the facilitators but you will need a client-browser email to use this feature.
Why cant I access certain portions of the LATI web site?
The LATI intranet is a password-protected learning workspace for LAs enrolled in the training. If you have problems accessing the website, contact the webmaster.
How long after I complete LATI will I have access to the intranet?
Your logon ID and password are valid for one year from date of enrollment in the program.
